Private Voice Studio

As a policy, I do not set a single, unilateral rate for all of my clients. This is because each client’s circumstances can differ drastically, and I want the final rate to fairly reflect those circumstances.

I teach primarily out of my apartment in Manhattan, on 159th Street and Saint Nicholas Avenue. I am willing to travel to your home or to a rented studio, as long as they are located in Manhattan. Please keep in mind that my commute time and/or any studio rental fees will be factored into your final lesson rate.

As you consider beginning voice lessons with me, please keep in mind the following studio policies:

  • First and foremost, your lesson time with me is a safe space. I will never laugh at you, put you down, or disrespect you in any way. In return, I ask the same of you.

  • You are encouraged to try new things, to make mistakes, and to sound “ugly” at times. I believe it is through guided, curious exploration of the entire voice—good, bad, and ugly—that genuine and healthy vocal development is achieved.

  • I will always ask your permission before recording any portion of your lesson, and I will never post a recording of your lesson, in whole or in part, anywhere it could possibly be heard by a third party. I highly encourage you to bring a recording device with you to each lesson, as it can be incredibly beneficial to listen to yourself and to reference specific exercises we develop during your lesson.

  • I will never make physical contact with you without your consent. If I need to physically demonstrate a concept or technique, I will first attempt to use myself as a model. In very specific circumstances (e.g. if demonstrating on myself is not achieving the desired outcome), I will first ask permission to make physical contact with you. Please note that you are never required to give your permission, and I will gladly and unconditionally respect your boundaries.

  • If I give you specific assignments at the end of a lesson, I expect you to complete them or make reasonable progress on them before our next lesson.

  • I expect you to put in a reasonable amount of individual practice time in between lessons. The definition of “reasonable” will vary by person, so we will discuss specific practice expectations in your lessons.

  • I expect you to attend every lesson we schedule. See “Attendance & Cancellations” below for more information.

  • I expect payment for each lesson to be made on time. See “Payment” below for more information.

Attendance & Cancellations

  • You are required to notify me (by email or text) of any non-emergency cancellations at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled lesson start time. This includes cancellations due to illness, last-minute schedule changes, vocal fatigue, etc. This does NOT include cancellations due to serious medical emergencies, sudden family emergencies, or dangerous weather conditions as determined by the National Weather Service. You are responsible for paying the full amount of your missed lesson for non-emergency cancellations made fewer than 24 hours in advance of your scheduled lesson start time. You are not responsible for paying for lessons cancelled more than 24 hours prior to your lesson start time, or for lessons cancelled due to genuine emergencies.

  • If you determine within 24 hours of your lesson start time that you are unable to attend your lesson due to illness, traffic, or any other extenuating non-emergency circumstances, you are required to notify me by text as soon as possible. You will still be responsible for the full cost of your missed lesson. If you neglect to show up to your lesson without notifying me at all of your cancellation prior to your lesson start time, you will be responsible for paying the full amount of your missed lesson, and continued scheduling of future lessons will be at my sole discretion.

  • Please text me if you will be late to your lesson. Please also note that I am not obligated to give you your full lesson time if you are late. For example, if you are 10 minutes late to your 30-minute-long lesson, you may only receive a 20-minute lesson. That said, things happen (train traffic, street closings, etc.), so I will do my best to accommodate unexpected lateness if my schedule allows it.

  • You are not responsible for payment for any lessons that I cancel. I will notify you as soon as possible of any lessons I have to cancel. If you have already paid in advance for a lesson that I have to cancel, I will issue you a full refund for the cancelled lesson.

  • I accept the following forms of payment:

    • Cash

    • Check

    • Venmo/QuickPay

    • Direct bank transfer

    • Credit/debit card (subject to a 2.9% + $0.25 transaction fee)

  • Payment for each lesson is due at the end of that lesson.

  • Please let me know in advance if you would like to pay via direct bank transfer or credit/debit card. If you select either of these options, I will email you an invoice after each lesson, through which you can submit payment directly to me.

If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email.
